Hello fellow Mint user! :D

I have Win10 Pro on my higher-power desktop, but I run Mint MATE on my laptop! :D

I’ve got a problem, in that everyone says Linux Mint is good, but I detest the flavor of mint, and it creates unnecessary associations. Luckily there are always a zillion Linux distros, I’ve been messing around with Elementary most recently, which seems reasonably slick, though I need to get around to de-Macifying it.

Ubuntu is my distro of choice.

I haven’t used Ubuntu much recently (aside from the Linux mode in Windows 10, where it seemed like Ubuntu was the one they designed it for, so probably the way to go there). My previous experience says it’s nice and simple to operate, with a somewhat clunky interface, and way too much Canonical trying to push their services (though not really any worse than what you get in Windows or macOS these days).

I have lubuntu on my ancient underpowered netbook (which really only gets used if something happens to my laptop, because that thing is real slow these days, even with an OS designed to be lightweight).

I was unaware of such a thing on Windows. However, googling it caused chrome to crash which in turn broke everything. I’m really confused, but if my laptop decides to work again I’m going to look into it.

That’s sub-optimal. But basically it should be this:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10

Provides native support for running a Linux distro under Windows 10. Generally that’s nicer than Cygwin. It looks like it is now possible to mount the full Windows filesystem in the WSL distro, and to run Linux commands from the Windows command line with ‘ wsl

Thanks for the info. I’ll look into this as I’m not 100% sold on using Win10 as my primary OS coming from a mix of OSX and linux.
